Taom: The Art of Meditation brings two powerful worlds together for the first time in a mindfulness experience: storytelling and guided meditation. Through emotionally rich stories and carefully designed meditation journeys, Taom helps listeners become more aware, present, and connected in their daily lives.

Behind every Taom experience is a carefully constructed sound world. Music is not treated as background decoration, but as an essential part of the journey. It shapes the atmosphere, supports the narrator, guides the listener’s emotions, and creates a bridge between story and meditation.

Taom’s music director, Yaz Hunkar, explains that the creative process begins with the heart of each story. “When Taom creates the music of meditation stories, the origin of each element of music is the character or characters in the story and the main topic of the meditation,” he says.

Each piece is built around time, space, emotion, and technology. Different musical periods, instruments, and sound effects are used to give every story its own identity. The goal is always to create a unique experience that feels immersive, emotional, and deeply personal.

According to Hunkar, the musical structure of Taom stories is built in three main parts: the intro music, the sub-story music, and the meditation music.

The intro music sets the atmosphere of the story. It prepares listeners before the narrator begins and invites them into the emotional world of the piece. This is where sound effects play a particularly important role. Hunkar describes this as “the magical part of the music.”

For example, if a story takes place by the sea, the team creates a sound space that makes the listener feel as if they are truly on a beach. The rhythm of nature becomes part of the composition. Waves, wind, and environmental textures are designed to work in harmony with the music, allowing the listener to enter the story before a single word is spoken.

Once the narrator begins, the music shifts into what Taom calls the sub-story section. This part supports the voice and emotion of the story without becoming distracting. It follows the tension, pace, and feeling of the narration while gently preparing the listener for the meditation that follows.

Because this section acts as a bridge, it must remain calm and focused. The music avoids unnecessary sound effects or elements that might pull attention away from the narrator. In some experiences, especially sleep meditations, this bridge is removed entirely, and the piece moves directly from the introduction into the meditation music.

The meditation section is where the music becomes softer, slower, and more atmospheric. Inspired by New Age sound design, this part uses pads, plucks, and specially crafted atmospheric effects designed specifically for the app.

Here, the purpose of the music is not to create rhythm or tempo, but to support the listener’s own natural pace. When affirmations or moments of reflection appear, the music gives space rather than direction. It becomes a focus assistant, helping the listener stay present until the end of the experience.

“For us, the primary purpose of designing the sounds is to make the experience as memorable as possible and to mix art with meditation in the best way possible,” Hunkar says.

Beyond storytelling meditations, Taom also offers background music for daily life under the app’s Music tab. This section includes a wide range of tracks designed to support different moods and needs throughout the day.

These pieces are created independently from the story-based meditations and focus on brainwave regulation and chakra balancing. Taom uses frequencies such as 528 Hz, 174 Hz, 432 Hz, and 417 Hz to create music for focus, concentration, creativity, studying, chakra healing, and anxiety relief.

Whether someone needs to calm their mind, concentrate on work, unlock creativity, or simply reset emotionally, the Music tab offers a sound experience designed to meet them where they are.

Through this careful musical construction, Taom turns meditation into something more than a practice. It becomes a cinematic, emotional, and artistic journey. Every sound, pause, effect, and melody is designed with intention, allowing listeners to move from story into stillness and from emotion into awareness.

In Taom, music is not just something you hear. It is part of the path.
